Colors of Spring Blog Hop

The completed focal

It’s time! A few weeks ago, I joined the Colors of Spring blog hop hosted by Sally Russick of The Studio Sublime, and today is the big reveal. For this hop, Sally created lovely enameled bisque beads, with the focal of each set being one of Pantone’s 2012 Spring colors. I was lucky enough to snag a set, in the very challenging color of Solar Power, a vibrant yellow. Yellow is a color I very … Continue reading

Morocco Earrings – 3 of 52

DSC01520

Pair number three (out of 52, I’m still way behind), are handmade copper bead caps, carved red wood beads, and handmade extended kidney ear wires. The copper caps were punched from 24 gauge sheet and domed in a dapping block. My original attempt had standard ear wires, but the earrings kept getting hidden in my hair. The longer wires leave the beads about at chin length and they stand out a lot more. This pair … Continue reading

Snowshoe Earrings – 2 of 52

Snowshoe Earrings

I’m slowly getting caught up to the current week in the 52 earrings project. Here is pair number 2. The frame and jump rings are 18 gauge copper wire, the interior is 24 gauge, the ear wires are 20 gauge. Once assembled, the interior was hammered with a nylon mallet to work harden the wires and smooth out any outliers. Then, the entire thing was given a patina with liver of sulphur gel, and very … Continue reading

Polymer and Resin Earrings (1/52)

It’s nearly the end of February, but here is my first pair of earrings for the 52 Pairs of Earrings project. I have a few other new pairs that I haven’t photographed yet, but they should be posted soon. These are polymer clay, resin, and gilder’s paste (under the resin layer). My first experiment with ICE Resin, colored with alcohol ink.

Bead Soup Blog Party!!

Collar and Beadwork

The Bead Soup Blog Party Reveal is here! I was partnered with Myléne Hillam and she sent me some really lovely pieces. The pieces are definitely not my normal style, but I love the color palette she chose and really enjoyed the challenge of coming up with a finished piece incorporating her gorgeous focal, clasp, and vintage inspired bead mix.     I started planning my necklace around Mylene‘s focal. It was a bit dainty … Continue reading

Total Treasures Blog Hop

Finished neckalce and earrings

Today is the Total Treasures Blog Hop, created by Copper Diem! The goal of the project was to create a piece of jewelry based on an Etsy Treasury. So, I received my incredibly lovely treasury way back on July 31st. That left two weeks to craft something. I was inspired immediately, but life conspired against me and I didn’t actually start the work until the 13th. Yesterday. The day before the big reveal. Despite the … Continue reading

Due to moving cities and jobs and the general craziness of life, the blog took a very extended hiatus. I’ll be back up and running soon.

WIP – Trinity Knots

Finished beads, sealed with Sculpey Satin Glaze

I love copper jewelry lately, so my current project is a necklace made of polymer beads formed into Trinity knots with a copper and verdigris finish. I was aiming for a very ancient look, like the beads were just unearthed after thousands of years. The beads are a copper and black base, antiqued with black acrylic paint. I then highlighted them with a blend of copper Pearl Ex Powders and added the verdigris with a … Continue reading
